- Supports community education and provides key advice and programs in beach management, ocean water safety, risk assessment, lifeguard training, public education, regulation, public relations, tourism support and teaming with medical, rescue and other specialist agencies.
OSSA The OSSA is widely recognised by the education sector (e.g. NSW Department of Education, DET, that really translates to acceptance by QLD and other education authorities in other states/territories, and also the surfing industry as a whole (APOLA licences ‘approved’ surf school operators to deliver/partner school students) and as well the pro-lifeguard industry (Council lifeguards recognise students doing school surfing at beaches are under supervision of teachers whereby students are in-training for the OSSA and/or have completed the OSSA – the OSSA also functions as a requirement set by schools for students to engage in the school sport of surfing – mandatory for NSW school students). A copy of the surfing guidelines for schools is included in the OSSA Resource Kit.
