  • Promotes and supports best practice in ocean water safety and beach management in consultation with Councils and career professional beach inspector ocean lifeguards.
  • Advocates high standards of professional ocean lifeguard performance through access to professional level training.

  • OSSA
The OSSA is widely recognised by the education sector (e.g. NSW Department of Education, DET, that really translates to acceptance by QLD and other education authorities in other states/territories, and also the surfing industry as a whole (APOLA licences ‘approved’ surf school operators to deliver/partner school students) and as well the pro-lifeguard industry (Council lifeguards recognise students doing school surfing at beaches are under supervision of teachers whereby students are in-training for the OSSA and/or have completed the OSSA – the OSSA also functions as a requirement set by schools for students to engage in the school sport of surfing – mandatory for NSW school students).  A copy of the surfing guidelines for schools is included in the OSSA Resource Kit.
